Ethan James Burnette
Director | Writer

Inspired by the vitality of nature in his childhood state of Maine and by how light, sound, and the moving image can combine to form visceral stories, Ethan eventually fell into the trap of becoming a writer and filmmaker. Since the inception of his chosen artistic path, his photography has been shown in The Portland Museum of Art, his short film In Your Own Skin has been screened in a number of festivals, and his screenwriting has gleaned a number of promising accolades as he anxiously awaits greater opportunities to become a professional writer and take on more challenging, intellectual endeavors to create a lasting legacy.

Ethan graduated from Ithaca College in 2013 with disciplines in Cinema and Photography Production and Creative Writing. The pursuit of his craft has brought him to Los Angeles where he is currently grinding away at two new screenplays and his debut novel, Flightless Birds, with an ambitious short film in the works as well.

The It Gets Better Project’s mission is to communicate to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth around the world that it gets better, and to create and inspire the changes needed to make it better for them.

Growing up isn’t easy. Many young people face daily tormenting and bullying, leading them to feel like they have nowhere to turn. This is especially true for LGBT kids and teens, who often hide their sexuality for fear of bullying. Without other openly gay adults and mentors in their lives, they can’t imagine what their future may hold.

While many of these teens couldn’t see a positive future for themselves, we can. The It Gets Better Project was created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach – if they can just get through their teen years. The It Gets Better Project wants to remind teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone — and it WILL get better.
